The South Holland Business Association (SHBA) was founded in 1979 to provide the business community with a collective voice within the Village.
The association established goals for business that would achieve the objective of making South Holland the finest community in which to live work, do business and shop. Over the years SHBA has provided businesses with ideas, methods and means by which to grow, prosper and provide the products and services needed.
The voice of SHBA has been successful through a positive relationship with our Village administration, and has maintained a strong commitment to civic responsibility while widely promoting the business community by being a visible and active group within the village.
SHBA Events are held throughout the year and include:
SHBA plans one-hour business luncheon meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month. These meetings offer a time for local business men and women to meet and network over a light lunch, and at the same time hear qualified speakers from all over the region. The meetings offer “open mike” opportunities for businesses to share what’s going on in their enterprise.
SHBA coordinates an annual golf outing, which is usually held in June. This four-person scramble event raises funds for our scholarships that are awarded to college students from SHBA members.
The South Holland Business Association continues to be the leading force behind the South Holland Banner Program. Over the years, the Village of South Holland, and it’s businesses have enhanced their utility poles with decorative banners. These banners are on display along the US Route 6 corridor in South Holland. If your business is interested in participating in this effective advertising campaign, contact the SHBA office for more details.
Each year SHBA Beautification Committee selects outstanding Businesses and/or Institutions who show exemplary efforts in enhancing their businesses and properties through remodeling and/or landscaping improvements. Awards are presented at the SHBA Annual Holiday Luncheon.
Throughout the year, a SHBA member opens its doors for an after-hours social allowing community business leaders to network with their peers.. A SHBA After Hours offers the host business a great opportunity to let others tour its facilities, learn about the business, and make contacts in the community. If you are interested in hosting a Business After Hours please contact the SHBA office.
SHBA has a monthly newsletter, Intercom, which is sent to all its members. The newsletter contains valuable information about upcoming events and programs, members’ news, village updates and relative business topics. There are also opportunities to advertise your business in the Intercom. SHBA members may contribute articles to the Intercom. The deadline for the articles is the 1st week of the month. Publication date is the week before the monthly luncheon meeting which is usually held on the 4th Thursday of the month.
The Scholarship Foundation is funded each year by fundraisers and/or donations. The purpose of the Foundation is to sponsor scholarships for deserving students who have successfully completed one or more years of college and meet other scholarship criteria. Students can apply each spring for awards for the upcoming fall semester. Recipients must work for a SHBA member or be the spouse, son or daughter of an employee of a SHBA member. For more information on the Scholarship Program, call the SHBA office at 708-596-0065.
